Handheld ultrasound machines for sale

Handheld systems in the catalog have no display of their own: an app shows the image on a phone or tablet. GE HealthCare, Mindray and Philips build them for point-of-care imaging, the Mindray and Philips systems also for bedside, emergency and critical care use. The GE HealthCare and Mindray probes link to the phone or tablet wirelessly, while the Philips transducers are battery-free and connect by USB cable.

Common questions about handheld ultrasound machines

Does a handheld ultrasound system come with a phone or tablet?

The phone or tablet is not part of the system: the GE HealthCare, Mindray and Philips handhelds have no display of their own and run their app on the user's own device. Each maker sets a minimum screen for that device, and GE HealthCare and Philips keep a list of compatible phones and tablets.

Do handheld ultrasound systems work with Android and iOS?

Yes. The GE HealthCare, Mindray and Philips handhelds each run on Android and iOS devices. The Philips transducers plug straight into an Android device, while on iOS some devices take them through a battery-powered power module.

How are handheld ultrasound probes powered and charged?

The GE HealthCare and Mindray probes carry their own battery: the GE HealthCare probe charges on a wireless charger, and the Mindray probe by its charging cable or in a charging case. The Philips transducers have no battery and run on the Android device's own battery or, on iOS, on a power module with a removable battery.

Which exams can a handheld ultrasound system do?

Each maker builds its handheld for cardiac, abdominal, obstetric, lung and vascular imaging. The GE HealthCare probe pairs a linear array, used for vascular work, with either a curved array for abdominal and obstetric imaging or a sector array for cardiac imaging. The Mindray and Philips apps carry a preset for each of these exams, and a FAST preset as well.

Can a handheld ultrasound system calculate ejection fraction automatically?

Yes, each maker has an automatic ejection-fraction tool. On the GE HealthCare probe, AutoEF is a purchased option with the sector array; Mindray added AutoEF to its handheld with an FDA clearance; and Philips runs Auto EF on its phased array transducer, on Android only. GE HealthCare runs its tool only on phones and tablets it has validated, and Philips marks Auto EF support device by device in its compatibility list.
