The Siemens ACUSON S1000 is a cart-based ultrasound system designed for vascular and shared-services imaging. It was built as the entry point to premium technologies such as elastography and contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and it is FDA-cleared under 510(k) K130619 and later clearances. Its siblings are the ACUSON S2000, for general imaging and women's health, and the premium ACUSON S3000.

What to check when buying a used Siemens ACUSON S1000
Inspect the power cord and its outlet
A power cord on an ACUSON S1000 has caught fire, a failure linked to use with a damaged outlet receptacle.
How: Look along the whole cord for cuts, crushing or scorching, especially where it has been pressed against a wall or bed, retire any cord showing mechanical damage, and ask for a recent electrical safety check.
Check the 18L6 HD biopsy guide alignment
Under Class 2 recall Z-2344-2015, a needle passed through the 18L6 HD biopsy guide could travel outside the on-screen guidelines.
How: If the system comes with an 18L6 HD biopsy kit, ask for the record of the recall correction and have Siemens service confirm that the needle path matches the on-screen guidelines.
Check control-panel seams for fluid ingress
Fluid that seeps into the circuitry can cause excessive leakage current or system failure, and spray cleaners can force it in through the console's openings.
How: Look for residue or staining around the control-panel seams, the keyboard and the DVD slot, and ask whether spray cleaners were used on the console.
Check the Doppler manual-trace software fix
On software VC30A, VC30B, VC30C and VC31A, the manual Doppler trace tool in full-screen format could miscalculate Time Average Velocity and with it the Pulsatility Index, the subject of recall Z-2314-2015.
How: Read the installed software version, and on those releases ask for the service record of the correction, measuring manual traces outside full-screen display until it is installed.
Common questions about the Siemens ACUSON S1000
Is the Siemens ACUSON S1000 FDA-cleared?
Yes. The ACUSON S1000 Diagnostic Ultrasound System was cleared under 510(k) K130619 on March 21, 2013, and later clearances naming it include K132804, K140959, K142876, K152369, K162243, K163635, K172162 and K202683, the last decided on October 15, 2020.
Its cleared indications under K163635 span fetal, abdominal, intraoperative, pediatric, small parts, transcranial, OB/GYN, cardiac, pelvic, neonatal and adult cephalic, vascular, musculoskeletal, superficial musculoskeletal and peripheral vascular applications.
Is the Siemens ACUSON S1000 discontinued?
Yes. The ACUSON S1000 is discontinued, and its commercial distribution ended on December 31, 2021.
How does the Siemens ACUSON S1000 differ from the S2000 and S3000?
The ACUSON S1000 is designed for vascular and shared-services imaging, the ACUSON S2000 for general imaging and women's health, and the ACUSON S3000, the family's premium system, for general imaging and interventional radiology.
Under K163635, eSie Fusion is on the S3000 only, VTI is on the S2000 and S3000 only, and the 6C1 HD and 8C3 HD transducers are cleared for the S2000 and S3000 only.
When did the Siemens ACUSON S1000 come out?
Siemens announced shipment of the ACUSON S1000 on March 12, 2012, and announced the HELX Evolution generation, which includes the S1000, in April 2014.
