What to check when buying a used Siemens ACUSON NX2 Elite

  1. Confirm the pulsed-wave Doppler recall fix

On units with software VA10A, VA10B, VA11A or VA11B, FDA recall Z-2351-2019 concerns a fault in which transducers can exceed their acoustic output power values in pulsed-wave Doppler.

How: Ask for the installed software version and written proof that the Siemens update was applied, since the version suffix alone does not prove the correction; on an unpatched unit, press UPDATE before each live pulsed-wave Doppler acquisition.

  2. Inspect the power cord and test grounding

A worn cord, a ground plug bypassed with an adapter, an extension cord or a multi-socket outlet can compromise grounding and push the system's electrical leakage past its limits.

How: Reject a cord that is frayed, split or worn, and have a biomed run an electrical safety test with the system plugged straight into a grounded outlet.

  3. Look for fluid ingress at panel seams

Fluid that seeps into the electrical circuitry can cause excessive electrical leakage or system failure, and spray cleaners can force it in.

How: Check the control-panel seams, the keyboard and the DVD slot for signs of spilled liquid or gel, and ask how the console has been cleaned.

  4. Reject a leaking or misshapen battery pack

A battery pack that leaks fluid or has changed shape must not be used, and one that no longer holds a charge needs replacing.

How: Read the charge LED on the rear AC Tray panel, where blinking green means charging, solid green means fully charged and an unlit LED means a battery problem or a missing pack.

Common questions about the Siemens ACUSON NX2 Elite

Is the Siemens ACUSON NX2 Elite FDA-cleared?

Yes. It is cleared under 510(k) K172374, decided August 15, 2017, as a Class II diagnostic ultrasound system together with the ACUSON NX2.

A second 510(k), K173981, decided February 2, 2018, covers the same two systems and includes the 10MC3 endocavity transducer.

What is the difference between the Siemens ACUSON NX2 and NX2 Elite?

The NX2 Elite takes the CW2 and CW5 pencil continuous wave transducers, which the base NX2 does not support. It has four 260-pin array ports plus an auxiliary port for those pencil transducers, where the NX2 has three 260-pin array ports and a parking port or an optional additional 260-pin port.

Steerable continuous wave Doppler, the Cardio-Vascular Option, Advanced fourSight 4D, eSie Touch elasticity imaging and Doppler Tissue Imaging are available only on the Elite, and 3-Scape 3D imaging is standard on the Elite and an option on the NX2.

Is the Siemens ACUSON NX2 Elite discontinued?

Yes, in the US. Its US commercial distribution ended on December 31, 2025, and Siemens Healthineers no longer lists it among its US general imaging systems.

What is the Siemens ACUSON NX2 Elite used for?

It is a general imaging system. Its FDA indications for use are cardiac, fetal, abdominal (including liver), pediatric, small parts, transcranial, OB/GYN, pelvic, urology, vascular (including peripheral vessel) and musculoskeletal imaging.
