What to check when buying a used Samsung Z20

  1. Inspect every probe's housing, lens and cable

A cracked housing keeps a probe from being cleaned properly, and compromised insulation on a probe or cable carries an electric-shock risk.

How: Look for cracks in the housing, scratches on the lens and wheel marks on the cable, and send any probe in doubt for electrical safety testing, which is not a user test.

  2. Confirm the MI and TI display while scanning

The Z20 shows the mechanical and thermal indices automatically in real time, so a missing index is a fault to resolve before purchase.

How: Scan with a probe connected and confirm that the mechanical index and the thermal index both appear on the monitor.

  3. Check the probes' cleaning agents and gels

Only disinfectants marked compatible are for use on the Z20's probes, and gels or couplants containing oil-based lotions or alcohols are not.

How: Ask which disinfectants and gels each probe was reprocessed with and check each against the compatible list, noting that some validated agents can stain the transducer surface without affecting acoustic performance or image quality.

  4. Test the electronic wheel locks from both ends

The wheel locks are electronic, so a fault in either control can leave the system unable to lock in place or to release.

How: Operate the lock control at the front and at the back of the system, and confirm the wheels lock and release from each.
