What to check when buying a used Mindray TE5

  1. Ask whether any probe has suffered an impact

A probe that has taken an impact can become defective and give the patient an electric shock.

How: Ask about every probe offered with the unit, and reject any probe that shows an abnormality.

  2. Inspect each probe's lens, housing and cable

A probe with peeling, cracks, bumps or signs of liquid spill has reached the end of its service life.

How: Look over each probe's surface and cable sheath for peeling, cracks, protruding parts or a loose acoustic lens.

  3. Check the unit's openings for liquid damage

Liquid must never be poured or sprayed on the main unit or reach its connections and openings, and a unit that shows damage must be taken out of use.

How: Look at the handle, probe sockets, ventilation holes, loudspeaker and the I/O and power panel sockets for signs that liquid or disinfectant got in.

  4. Inspect probe connectors and sockets for corrosion

The probe connector is not waterproof, and disinfectant on connectors or metal parts can cause corrosion.

How: Look for corrosion and fluid marks on each probe connector and on the unit's probe sockets, and freeze the image or power off before plugging or unplugging a probe.
