What to check when buying a used Mindray Resona I9T

  1. Have a biomed run the electrical safety tests

They measure protective earth resistance and earth, enclosure and patient leakage, faults that a visual inspection cannot see.

How: Ask for the safety analyzer results, with the earth leakage test run before the other leakage tests and the mains-on-applied-part test included.

  2. Reject probes with damaged lenses or exposed wiring

A probe with a damaged or scratched surface or exposed wiring must not be used on a patient.

How: Look over each probe head for cracks, swelling, scratches or exposed wiring, and for gel left on the face, whose water can get into the acoustic lens.

  3. Inspect the power cord, plug and adapter

A cracked or loose cord, damaged pins or a plug that runs warm is an electrical hazard.

How: Look for wrinkles, cracks, deterioration or looseness in the cord, cracks or swelling on the adapter surface, broken, bent or discolored plug pins and a damaged strain relief, and confirm the plug does not run warm in use.

  4. Listen and smell for overheating after power-on

Rattles inside the case or a burning smell point to an internal fault.

How: With the system running, listen for rattles inside the case and check the ventilation holes for burning or smoky smells and signs of overheating.
