What to check when buying a used Mindray Resona 7

  1. Have a biomed run electrical safety tests

The tests measure protective earth resistance and earth, enclosure and patient leakage.

How: Have the tests run with a commercially available safety analyzer, and keep the results with the purchase record.

  2. Inspect the power cord, plug and breaker

Cracks or deterioration on the power cable, a loose plug, bent pins or a plug that warms in use are electrical safety faults.

How: Check the cable and adapter for wrinkles, cracks or swelling, the plug for loose, bent or discolored pins and strain-relief damage, and confirm the circuit breaker works.

  3. Inspect every probe's head, cable and pins

A damaged or scratched transducer carries a risk of electric shock, and a probe with peeling, rifts, bumps, cracks or a liquid spill is no longer fit for use.

How: Look for cracks or swelling of the probe head, a deteriorating or peeling cable, and bent, broken or missing connector pins.

  4. Check each probe for abnormal surface heat

A probe giving off excessive heat may burn the patient.

How: Scan with each probe and check its surface for abnormal heat during the scan.

Common questions about the Mindray Resona 7

Is the Mindray Resona 7 FDA-cleared?

Yes. The Resona 7 is FDA-cleared as a class II diagnostic ultrasound system (regulation 892.1550, product code IYN) under 510(k) K152763, decided on October 21, 2015.

Later 510(k)s whose device lists include it are K162267 (September 6, 2016), K171233 (September 12, 2017), K202785 (April 8, 2021) and K222928, whose clearance letter is dated February 7, 2023.

What exams is the Mindray Resona 7 cleared for?

Under 510(k) K202785, which lists the Resona 7 among its models, the indications are fetal, abdominal, intraoperative, pediatric, small organ (breast, thyroid, testes), neonatal and adult cephalic, trans-rectal, trans-vaginal, musculoskeletal (conventional and superficial), adult and pediatric cardiac, trans-esophageal cardiac, peripheral vessel and urology exams.

The patients named are adults, pregnant women, pediatric patients and neonates.

What is the Mindray Resona 7 Platinum Edition?

The Platinum Edition is the Resona 7 configuration named in Mindray's RSNA 2023 announcement. It carries a 23.8-inch high-resolution LED monitor, a 13.3-inch anti-glare color touch screen at 1920 x 1080, a dual-wing floating monitor arm and, as standard, an on-board battery for standby.

Its software includes HD Scope, V Flow, HiFR STE, USAT, Glazing Flow, Ultra-Micro Angiography (sUMA), CEUS Chrono-Parametric Mode (CCPM) and 4D Fetal Face. There is also a Lightning Edition of the Resona 7.

How is the Mindray Resona 7 related to the Resona R9 and Nuewa R9?

The Resona 7, as cleared under K171233, is the main predicate device in 510(k) K202785, the clearance for the Resona R9 and Nuewa R9 family, and that clearance lists the Resona 7 among its own models.
